I saw this video below a little while back on Yes's blog.
I've had periods in the 90's and early 2000's of gestural mark making and abstraction in branches of my work (mainly with ceramics and canvas) before distilling it back into letters. So of course, having liked his pieces since the 80's, I was very interested in what West has to say about his amazing work. It's not often I here about other writers having the same influences such as the likes of Kline, Motherwell, and others like Antoni Tapies.
